Privacy Policy

Effective Date: October 17, 2025

At OpenAid, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you use our donor-transparent charity platform built on the Pi Network.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Personal Data: Name, email address, phone number, city, state and country,.
  • Donation Activity: Amounts donated, projects supported, timestamps, and Pi username and UID.
  • Verification Documents (for NGOs): Legal IDs, registration papers — used solely for KYC purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Process donations securely via the Pi Network.
  • Verify identities of donors and NGOs to prevent fraud.
  • Enable donation tracking and provide transparency reports.
  • Communicate updates about projects, platform improvements, or policy changes.
  • Analyze user behavior to improve functionality and UX.

3. On-Chain Transparency vs. Privacy

While all donation transactions are recorded on the Pi blockchain (public ledger), only your transaction memo and Pi wallet address is visible on-chain. Your real identity remains private unless you choose to make it public.
Also, donors' names (not Pi usernames) are shown on our portal for donations transparency

We never sell or rent your personal data to third parties. However, aggregated, anonymized data may be shared for research or reporting.

4. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We may share your information under the following circumstances:

  • With NGOs: Only your name and donation amount (not contact details) are shared with recipient organizations.
  • Service Providers: Trusted partners handling storage (e.g., AWS S3), analytics, or communication tools under strict confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Compliance: If required by law, regulation, or government request.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard safeguards to protect your data:

  • SSL encryption for all web traffic.
  • Secure servers with access controls.
  • Regular audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Private keys and sensitive files stored offline or encrypted.

Note: Blockchain transactions are irreversible and immutable. Once a donation is sent, it cannot be undone.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data as long as you maintain an active account or until necessary for the purposes outlined in this policy. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (subject to legal obligations).

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
  • Opt out of marketing communications.
  • Request a copy of your data in machine-readable format.
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority if needed.

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@openaid.org.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our platform is not intended for individuals under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware of such data, we will take steps to remove it immediately.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or regulatory requirements. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Effective Date." We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
